LONDON CANCELLATION OF GALLIPOLI/ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS
On behalf of the Australian and New Zealand High Commissioner, we are informed that they are unable to extend an invitation to members of the Gallipoli Association to attend in person the annual commemorations to mark ANZAC Day on Sunday 25 April 2021.
Unfortunately, given the importance of adhering to the UK Government’s Covid-19 guidance, we will not be holding a wreath-laying at the Cenotaph. We intend to maintain the custom of holding a Dawn Service at Hyde Park Corner with key representatives only, which will be filmed for broadcast. No public attendance will be permitted. A Service of Commemoration at Westminster Abbey, again with restricted numbers and invited representatives only in attendance, will also take place in accordance with the Abbey’s Covid-19 plans.
We invite members of the Gallipoli Association to join us for a special online commemoration at 11am on Sunday 25 April. This will be broadcast on both the Australian and New Zealand High Commission Facebook pages. Details will be shared by email and on our social media accounts as arrangements are confirmed.
We thank you for your understanding and hope to be able to welcome your group members to ANZAC Day next year.
